When are SSCs the right choice?

According to a position paper published in Pediatric Dentistry, there are several clear cut indications when SSCs are the best fit.*

1.  High risk children exhibiting anterior tooth decay and/ or molar caries to protect remaining at-risk dentition.

2.  Primary molars showing extensive decay, large lesions, or multiple surface lesions.

3.  Children requiring general anesthesia.

Clinical advantages of SSCs

Superior Durability/ Longevity

Research shows class II amalgams fail 1.5-9 times for every 1 SSC.*

Reduced Technique Sensitivity

Saliva control in an uncooperative child often does not impact the quality of an SSC restoration.*

Economic Viability

Another study concluded the ultimate replacement cost for class II amalgams was 2.4X that of SSCs.*
